- The Museum of Oxford will stay open for another year at least. After that, who knows?
- As Brixham Museum struggles over £11k, the council asks its mayor to give up the £50k for his Jaguar and chauffeur: Councillor Vic Ellery said if there was a stark choice between a grant for the port’s museum and money for the civic budget it was not a difficult decision.
- You can find newcurator on Twitter, Facebook and Flickr still. I’m now on ArtBabble and I hang about on Museum 3.0. Find me, friend me etc.
- Wikipedia Loves Art now has over 10,000 photos in its Flickr pool
- The Canadian Fossil Discovery Centre announced the project will cost $24 million (but are still considering sites) and are looking for grants.
- Saatchi’s Artist X-Factor will be called “Best of British” (Ick) and you have until March 29th to submit your entry. (I would have called it Saatchi’s Angels)
- Apparently, the whole news story about the Rose Art Museum was mainly outrage and miscommunication. Donn Zaretsky clears things up: It’s stopping being an actual “museum” and continuing as a student resource. Stuff my be sold (because it’s not a museum, no deaccessioning issues) in the future, but not in the current downturn.
- I still haven’t been to see the Altermodernist exhibition yet and I won’t comment on it until I do.
- The Museum of Expellees has withdrawn Erika Steinbach’s name from the board.
