Not only does Michael Radcliffe make really good paintings that I do covet greatly, he is also worth following on twitter, making this ArtFriday also a bit of a #followfriday. Make sure you do.

- Biteback: Fitzwilliam's no loga stance means no lolly - Times Online 2009/06/01
Cambridge’s Fitzwilliam Museum has rejected a grant of £80,000 from the Art Fund. But the “tit-for-tat” deal would have meant the museum showing the fund’s newish, pink-and-black heart-shaped logo beside the funded picture. Its refusal has now lost the museum not only that money, but other funding from the Vamp;A and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council. So, the Fitz’s plan to purchase a £175,000 work has collapsed — at least for now. Director Timothy Potts: “logos are the currency of marketing, and this introduces a promotional element into the galleries which we regard as an unacceptable distraction”.
- After an Age of Rage, Museums Master the Display of Commotional Restraint - washingtonpost.com 2009/06/01
But a funny thing happened. Over the past decade, small controversies occasionally unsettled the museum world, but they went away quickly, and few gained enough traction to become national issues. After almost a half a century of polarizing and contentious debate -- dating back at least 40 years to a show at New York#039;s Metropolitan Museum of Art called quot;Harlem on My Mind, quot; which ignited the modern era of museum conflict -- a strange quiet has settled over the museum world.

It will offer rent-free space for people with creative products to sell such as ceramics, artworks, creative gifts and fashion, helping new businesses with great ideas to get a step-up on the ladder to success. It is hoped that low cost ‘pop-up’ shops of this kind will provide a template for London and towns and cities across the UK by offering a helping hand for businesses that may be priced out of high cost, high street and prime retail locations. This will also help to support smaller, independent shops increasing consumer choices.
